Ursa Minor
There are presently no open calls for submissions.
Welcome to URSA MINOR, the art and literature review of UC Berkeley Extension.
We’re so glad you’re here.
In this, our fourth edition, we are seeking submissions of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction and artwork inspired by the theme, Punctuated Equilibrium.
Punctuated Equilibrium is the theory that evolution is characterized by geologically long periods of stasis, interrupted by short bursts of rapid change. In this in-between time, we can expect creative explosions or devastating collapse. Think of a meteorite a mile wide, the internal combustion engine, the early days of rock & roll. Think of big and little bangs, ruptures in the fabric of time, in life as we know it.
We invite you to have your own creative burst. We like voices and images that linger in our minds after we’ve finished reading a piece or viewing an image, and are looking for well-crafted, compelling works on topics that interest us.
The submission period will open on October 30, 2019 and will close on January 31, 2020. We are excited to announce that the fourth edition of URSA MINOR will be available in both print and digital format. The publication will be ready in June 2020.
For those who had their pieces appear in our previous volume, we ask that you abstain from submitting in the same category this year. However, you should feel free to submit work for any of the other categories.
Please click on the categories below to read about the specific requirements or to submit your work. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter, too.
